“Sky Station” with 800-m Runway to be Developed in Kutchan

Niseko Aviation (Yamada 190-6, Kutchan,), a company engaged in aircraft rental, is planning to build an airfield tentatively named Kutchan Sky Station on farmland in Kutchan Town. The plan includes the development of an 800-m runway and a terminal building.

The airfield is intended to be a place where small propeller planes can arrive and depart. With the aim of further revitalizing the region’s agriculture and tourism industry, it is planned to have a logistics function for transporting agricultural products from the Niseko Kutchan area and a commercial and industrial function such as an aerial photography business.

The land area is expected to be 100,000 m2. The terminal building will have a control function, a waiting room, restaurants offering local foods, and a direct sales store for agricultural products. The runway will be covered with grass and measure 800 m in length and 25 m in width.

It is also planned to build a hangar that can store four small propeller planes and an outdoor parking lot for 50 vehicles on the premises.

A representative of the company said, “We are still in the planning stage, so we have yet to decide on the start and completion times…we would like to gain understanding from the town and farmers in the area to proceed with the plan.”
