Suncity Group Announces Plans to Construct Hotel and Villas: Land Development to Start Soon
Macau’s Suncity Group Holdings Ltd. (Alvin Chau, CEO), which develops integrated resorts (IR), is currently planning the large-scale development of a hotel and villas in Kutchan Town. Land development will start soon with the project scheduled for completion around 2025. The contractor will be decided at a later time.
The plan includes the construction of a hotel with more than 40 guest rooms on a 20-ha site at Yamada 17-4, Kutchan, near the Niseko Mountain Resort Grand HIRAFU, as well as a total of roughly 70 townhouses and detached villas ranging in size from 300 to 600 m². While the structure and number of floors are still under consideration, the total floor area is expected to be at least 50,000 m².
The company established a subsidiary in Japan in November 2020 to carry out development in Niseko. The subsidiary acquired land in the Yamada area from a Hong Kong real estate developer in January. According to the person in charge of Marketing Communications for Suncity Group, “We will be eliminating gambling elements such as casinos and setting our sights on creating an all-season resort focused on skiing.”
Suncity Group is listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange—one of the world’s leading exchanges, has a proven track record of IR development in Vietnam, and operates casinos and restaurants mainly in East Asia. In Japan, its affiliated company had been applying for public tender to become an IR business operator in Wakayama Prefecture, but announced its withdrawal in May especially due to COVID-19. In addition to Niseko, the group is planning to develop a resort in Miyakojima, Okinawa Prefecture.
